Been a while since the last post, blah blah whatever. CNN has a story today about CERN’s new Large Hadron Collider — the one that’s supposed to ice-nine the planet or get us sucked into a subatomic-sized black hole. The title looks like fear-mongering but they actually do a decent bit of alleviating concern that we’re all going to be turned into a giant ball of strange matter. So, to counteract that, here’s the countdown to the end of the world: LHCountdown.com. As I write this it’s at 7 days, 10 hours, not too long after X-day 11. I figure we have about the same chances of being whisked off by the saucers this year as the LHC has of destroying the entire planet.

I think I’ll be voting Diebold this year, because it’s not like I have a choice.

I’m filing this under humor because I laughed all throughout reading it.

Parent criticizes book ‘Fahrenheit 451′

So, this guy’s trying to ban a book (which he hasn’t read), which is about banning and burning books, during “Banned Books Week”.

“He looked through the book and found the following things wrong with the book: discussion of being drunk, smoking cigarettes, violence, “dirty talk,” references to the Bible and using God’s name in vain. He said the book’s material goes against their religions beliefs.” (sic)

What, no separation of church and state? No piddly first amendment is going to get in this guy’s way! I hope the committee who looks at this comes to their senses, or these kids are going to miss out on an important (and damn good) book.

Also, I noticed this same district banned a book by Eric Carle. Isn’t he the guy that did that caterpillar book and the one about the spiderweb? What, did he write one about the little stripper who could, or is it more overreaction and needless censorship? I’ll have to look for that one next time I hit a bookstore.

OK, if you’re reading this you probably know me, and you know that I gave up on my old website after 3 months and livejournal after 2. Let’s see if I can continue that trend or if this one will stick.

I’m going to start off with a very short tour of my apartment for those of you who haven’t gotten a chance to visit. Yes, it’s boring, no, you don’t have to read it.
